Q Why are bells rung? A For Sunday services, special celebrations, Civic occasions, Anniversaries, Weddings Q Who rings bells? A Young, old, men, women, boys, girls - you !!! Q Are any qualifications necessary? A No, none Ringers do not need to be big, strong, musical or mathematical. It helps to have a sense of rhythm, patience and a sense of humour!! Q Where would I ring? A There are over 5000 churches in the country with bells. There will be a tower with working bells within a few miles of you. If you are reading this site then you may be living near Terling - come along on our practice night and meet us - no obligation!! Q Do I need to be a member of the church to ring the bells? A No, this is not necessary, although many ringers are. Also ringers sometimes belong to churches and denominations other than where they ring. Q What is in it for me? A The opportunity to learn a new skill and one which is almost certainly different to anything you have done before. Exercise of both body and mind. Excellent social activity. Visits to other towers in other parts of the country - bellringers are welcome to visit any tower, wherever they are. Sense of achievement which never stops, however many years you have been ringing!
